Just Tasted: Paul John Bold

We attended (virtually on Twitter) the Paul John 'Bold', Twitter launch last week, hosted by The Whisky Wire. As ever, it was a great evening... Paul John double distil their spirit in traditional copper pot stills at the distillery in Goa. Their latest release 'Bold' was made using peat from Islay & matured in American oak bourbon barrels for at least 4 to 5 years... Here's what we thought of Paul John Bold... IMG_4445Nose: Lovely warm spice, cinnamon, white pepper, eucalyptus, slight TCP bandage notes, tobacco… Soft, aged leather, earthy ripe apples, good wave of smoke coming through…Nutty, creamy almonds… Palate: Big hit of honey, softens down, lingering warm pepper, which seems to get stronger with time. Delicate peat, salted caramel and cloves. Finish: The pepper stays for a while, along with a slight bitter/metallic note, tobacco and hints of sweet smoke. Overall: Rather enjoy this dram, not a bad whisky at all - the nose beats the palate for me…If the palate matched the nose it would be very good. Thanks to Steve Rush for hosting another great Tweet Tasting and also to Paul John Distillery for the sample... Slàinte
