Recently Tasted - Ben Nevis 16 Year Old
Release 3 - The Rare Casks Abbey Whisky
When we decided to release a third bottling in The Rare Casks series, we had one goal. It had to be a big sherry cask! A big bold dram that really excites the palate and sends you on an exhilarating journey... As with all our drams the most important factor was the taste, it had to be a phenomenal dram... Like our previous two releases which were a Caperdonich 17 Year Old & a 23 year old Bunnahabhain, only 96 bottles have been filled. Release 3 in the Rare Casks Series is Ben Nevis, a beauty of a dram from the Highlands of Scotland. Distilled in 1997 and aged for 16 years in a single sherry hogshead, the whisky has been bottled at natural cask strength (55% vol). The ethos of The Rare Casks series is to introduce and explore drams that excite and stimulate discussion and this big sherry bomb fits to a T, a very big T...Ben Nevis 16 Year Old Tasting Notes (The Rare Casks)
Nose: Clean but big and slightly dirty (is that possible?) This is a big, huge sherry bomb, big bold flavours coming through... Smoked parma ham, ginger, cloves, chocolate and orange with a hint of fresh mint, rubber notes, burnt match sticks, tobacco, boot polish, lovely dark molasses. Reminds me of PE back at School, gym shoes (plimsolls). Taste: Big and bold, bitter orange, an abundance of winter spice, cloves cinnamon & nutmeg to name a few. Dark chocolate orange, leather, hints of menthol, smoked meat, rubber and dark sugar. Finish: Clean and long, with a touch of berry. Comments: A big sherry bomb, packed with flavours.
Release 3 in The Rare Casks series is available exclusively from Abbey Whisky, priced £64.95
