Originally launched in 2011 as a single cask release with the aim to replicate the original bottling from 1882, the release quickly sold out. The distillery set to work at creating this single malt and adding it into their core range of whiskies at a more affordable and accessible dram. A slight change of name with the spelling of McDonald to MacDonald as all the local descendants of of the original Long John, now spell their name MacDonald.
