For a bourbon to be labelled 'Bottled In Bond' it has to be aged and bottled according to a strict set of legal regulations, as laid out in the 'Bottled In Bond Act 1897'. The spirit has to be aged for at least four years in a federally bonded warehouse under United States supervision, bottled at 100 proof, the product from one distillation season and one distiller at one distillery.
