Wine Sponge Edition No.1 - Domaine Zind-Humbrecht Gewurztraminer 2020 Alsace Grand-Cru 150cl
This was the very first edition of the Wine Sponge, a single cask Gewurztraminer wine from Domaine Zind-Humbrecht in Alsace from the 2020 harvest of the Grand Cru Rangen Vineyard. Pressed juice of Gewurztraminer grapes filled into an ex-Port Charlotte, in fact the one used to mature Whisky Sponge Edition No 4. Left to ferment naturally in the Domaine's cave, with only 124 magnums filled to bottle at 15% vol.
'The wine itself is immensely charismatic and bone dry. A powerful, beautifully structured example of Rangen Gewurztraminer, with a much deeper interplay from the cask itself thanks to being made in the barrel, rather than simply 'finished' in it'.
